FOR INSEkT L0GIC Met up with Jerome and his wife for kawfee last night. Gave him my broken Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard. The SK-1 was the first 8-bit sampling keyboard available for under $100 in the eighties. He got it running again. It was just a connection problem. He circuit bent it today while i was at work. Additions: an addtional 1/4" out (existing mic and headphone jack was only 1/8") a kill switch (for stuttering and cut-off) a distortion switch (cuz distorted keyboard sounds are leet) a new paintjob (so i have to guess at what the buttons do) He may also tweak the sampler arpegio thinger later, too. There are schematics floating around to adding midi to the sk-1, too. I might have him add that in so that we can use it as a midi controller, which would be even more badass. The reborn beast is tentatively named "Sample Killa 1". He's hooked it up to his sampler and has been recording noizes off of it today. He says it sounds wicked kewl and will have some mp3 samples for me later. Photos at right (along with his two bent & modded yamaha and korg beasts). We'll make some more gear later... mmmmm.. noize and distortion boxes. 8)~ | ![]() |
